SHILIIN GOL MELODY, STYLE AND TECHNIQUE

This type of Mongolian long song consists mainly of Tsakhar long songs with inclusion of other subgroups such as Zuun Sunid, Abaga, Uzemchin, Khuvuut Shar, Khorchin and Zaruud ethnicities etc. In general, the Tsakhar long song melody, style and technique dominantly possess the Shiliin Gol (Xilingol) school melisma of 'nugalaa' (lit. 'bending'), a technique made with the movements of jaw. Indeed, 'nugalaa' and the 'tsoordon duulakh' (flute-like singing) school are considered to be the main feature characteristics of Tsakhar (Chahar) long song to differ from the long song heritage of other Mongol ethnicities.
